Chirico Named NEWMAC =
Women's=20
Diving Coach of the Year
BABSON PARK, Mass. =96 Wellesley College's Joe Chirico was named the =
NEWMAC=20
Women's Diving Coach of the Year at the =
conference's=20
postseason meeting on Thursday.
Chirico guided Wellesley senior=20
Kate Sorenson (Bolton, MA) to first place finishes on =
both=20
boards at the NEWMAC Championships while earning NEWMAC Diver of the =
Year=20
honors. In just her third year as a diver, Sorenson will represent =
Wellesley at the NCAA Division III Championships March 18-21 after =
earning=20
All-America honors last season.
Now in his fourth season as =
diving coach=20
for the Blue, Chirico also had college coaching stints at Northeastern=20
University, Boston College and Babson College. His NEWMAC Diving =
Coach of=20
the Year award is the second on his career, after previously winning the =
men's=20
award in 2006.
Chirico highlighted several other NEWMAC =
postseason=20
awards. Wheaton's J.P. Gowdy was honored as the Swimming Coach of =
the Year=20
after helping the Lyons secure a third-place finish at the NEWMAC =
Championship.=20
Coast Guard was chosen as the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award =
recipient.
